Course Objectives

The aim of the introductive module is providing students materials and construction elements, in order to easily enhance a more detailed study in the next module. Comprehension of the influence of material selection on design. Understanding the principles and standards related to the production, use, and application of building materials and components.

Course Content

Materials are taught in relation to construction technologies and design. Main properties of building materials, partitions, furnitures, circulation elements, ceiling and mezzanine systems are taught through practices.

Learning Outcomes

Code Description
LO1 Students will be able to develop a comprehensive understanding of floor, wall, and ceiling systems, gaining insight into their functions and design.
LO2 Students will be able to gain overall understanding of how to determine the most suitable materials for spaces and detail them in accordance with the materials' characteristics and appropriate joining methods.
LO3 Students will be able to understand different types of vertical and horizontal circulation systems, including their minimum requirements, fundamental calculations, and comfort conditions.
LO4 Students will be able to develop an understanding of different methods for representing details and materials through drawings at various scales and in 3D models.
LO5 Students will be able to develop an understanding of how to produce consistent and comprehensive sets of drawings.

Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence

Violations of scholastic honesty include, but are not limited to cheating, plagiarizing, fabricating information or citations, facilitating acts of dishonesty by others, having unauthorized possession of examinations, submitting work of another person or work previously used without informing the instructor, or tampering with the academic work of other students. Any for of scholastic dishonesty is a serious academic violation and will result in a disciplinary action.Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI):Students are permitted to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, etc.) for grammar correction and academic writing improvement throughout their work. However, AI-generated original content (e.g., analysis, paragraph writing, conceptual description, etc.) must not exceed 20% of the submitted material.In any case where AI tools are used, students are required to include a clear declaration within the assignment/report/submission. This declaration must include the name of the AI tool/model used, the specific purpose, and a brief explanation of how it contributed to the work.Example declaration:"I used ChatGPT-4 for proofreading and restructuring the introductory paragraph."Failure to declare the use of AI tools when applied will be treated as a violation of academic integrity and plagiarism policies and may result in disciplinary action.
