Course Objectives

This course aims to understand aspects of Interior Architecture in relation with: function and use, context and environment, ergonomics and human/built scale, material and technique, permanence and/or ephemeral. Special consideration will be given to converting and industrial buildings to new functions. Proposing a mezzanine floor structure is defined as the initial requirement of this code. The application of forms, lighting, colors, materials, textures and construction systems are further elaborated in detail. Model making and sketches are an essential part of presentation and progress of the projects.

Course Content

It is aimed for students to design spaces for accommodation (hotels, motels etc.). Students are expected to present their design proposal at the level of a professional project.

Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence

Violations of scholastic honesty include, but are not limited to cheating, plagiarizing, fabricating information or citations, facilitating acts of dishonesty by others, having unauthorized possession of examinations, submitting work of another person or work previously used without informing the instructor, or tampering with the academic work of other students. Any for of scholastic dishonesty is a serious academic violation and will result in a disciplinary action.There will be pop-up quizzes (unscheduled or unannounced quiz) throughout the semester. The aim is recording student’s drawing and modelling skills. In case of serious differences between the quiz results and jury submissions, instructors are allowed to take an extra exam from students. Also, all visual submissions will be checked through Google’s image search engine and in case of detecting high level of similarities between student project and existing designs, the case will be investigated and handled by universities’ discipline committee. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI):Students are permitted to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, etc.) for grammar correction and academic writing improvement throughout their work. However, AI-generated original content (e.g., analysis, paragraph writing, conceptual description, etc.) must not exceed 20% of the submitted material.In any case where AI tools are used, students are required to include a clear declaration within the assignment/report/submission. This declaration must include the name of the AI tool/model used, the specific purpose, and a brief explanation of how it contributed to the work.Example declaration:"I used ChatGPT-4 for proofreading and restructuring the introductory paragraph."Failure to declare the use of AI tools when applied will be treated as a violation of academic integrity and plagiarism policies and may result in disciplinary action.
