HIST 102 - Atatürk's Principles and Revolution History II

The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Turkey’s political, social, economic, and diplomatic transformation from the Armistice of Mudros to the end of the Second World War. The course enables students to analyse the National Struggle, national sovereignty, the foundation of the Republic, political regime-building, modernisation reforms, and foreign policy within the framework of historical continuity and change.

The course begins with the occupation process following the Armistice of Mudros and examines the political and military developments of the Turkish National Struggle. The National Pact, the congresses, and the Treaties of Sèvres and Lausanne are discussed in relation to national sovereignty, independence, and international recognition. The course then addresses the abolition of the Sultanate, the proclamation of the Republic, the construction of the new political regime, and early opposition movements. It also examines the social and cultural reforms and economic policies of the early Republican period, the Straits and Hatay questions, and Turkey’s domestic and foreign policy during the Second World War.

Assessment in this course consists of a midterm and a final examination. Students are expected to comply with the principles of academic integrity during both examinations.
