Basic Information

Course Code:
ITP 1011
Course Name:
Sustainable Building Design
Language of Instruction:
Turkish
Course Type:
Class
Course Level:
Pre Bachelor
ECTS:
4.00
Instructor:
Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Setenay AK

Course Objectives

To provide students with knowledge on achieving sustainability and energy optimization in buildings.

Course Content

Factors such as energy requirements in buildings, the relationship between climatic data and buildings, and the relationship between the building envelope and energy use (heating, cooling, lighting) will be evaluated. Additionally, the role of windows in energy consumption, the assessment of building envelope cross-sectional properties in terms of heating and cooling energy, the impact of solar energy on architectural design, and the relationship between environmental pollution and design criteria for energy enhancement will be examined

Learning Outcomes

Code Description
LO1 Defines the factors determining the energy requirements of buildings and the effects of climatic data on construction and application processes.
LO2 Explains the role of the building envelope, windows, and insulation materials on the heating, cooling, and lighting energy consumption of the building.
LO3 Examines the cross-sectional properties of building elements within the framework of thermal insulation rules (e.g., TS 825 standards) and distinguishes details suitable for energy efficiency.
LO4 Comprehends the basic application principles of passive design strategies and active systems (e.g., photovoltaic panel integration) for the use of solar energy in buildings.
LO5 Evaluates the role of energy-saving criteria in reducing environmental pollution and adopts sustainable, environmentally sensitive approaches in construction site applications.
