Instructor:
Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Sezgin AKSAKAL CESUR

Course Objectives

To gain skills in laboratory safety, equipment usage, basic solution preparation, sample collection/acceptance criteria, and basic microscopic examination

Course Content

This course begins with laboratory biosafety rules, the use of personal protective equipment, and the principles of medical waste management. Proper operation, maintenance, and sterilization/disinfection methods for primary and auxiliary laboratory equipment (micropipettes, centrifuges, incubators, autoclaves, etc.) are covered through hands-on practice. Following the introduction of the operating principles and use of the light microscope, practical applications are carried out on chemical calculations, preparation of solutions at desired concentrations, serial dilutions, and pH measurement techniques. The course concludes with venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques, sample acceptance and rejection criteria, smear preparation, basic staining methods (simple staining and Gram staining), and the evaluation of pre-analytical sources of error.

Prerequisites / Corequisites

None.
