Basic Information

Course Code:
FZY 1007
Course Name:
Biyomekani ve Kinezyoloji
Language of Instruction:
Turkish
Course Type:
Class
Course Level:
Pre Bachelor
ECTS:
3.00
Instructor:
Öğr. Gör. Arife KORKUT

Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of kinesiology and biomechanics, explain the biomechanical properties of the tissues constituting the musculoskeletal and neural systems, and introduce the mechanical principles underlying normal human movement. The course also aims to develop an understanding of the mechanical behavior of bone, muscle, connective tissue, cartilage, and joints under normal and pathological conditions; body reference planes, movement and gait analysis; and the mechanical and pathomechanical characteristics of the spine, pelvis, and upper and lower extremity joints.

Course Content

Fundamental concepts of kinesiology and biomechanics; bone tissue and functional adaptation of bone under pathological conditions; metabolic bone diseases; muscle tissue, contracture, and fatigue; connective tissue; biomechanics of cartilage and joints; body reference planes and coordinate systems; movement analysis; normal and pathological gait; biomechanics and pathomechanics of the vertebral column; scoliosis; pelvic mechanics and pathomechanics; mechanics and pathomechanics of the hip, knee, foot, and ankle joints; biomechanics of the shoulder complex, elbow, hand, and wrist joints; and biomechanical properties of neural tissue.

Learning Outcomes

Code Description
LO1 Explains the fundamental concepts of kinesiology and biomechanics, body reference planes, coordinate systems, and basic mechanical principles of human movement.
LO2 Explains the biomechanical properties of bone, muscle, connective tissue, cartilage, joints, and neural tissue, as well as their mechanical responses under normal and pathological conditions.
LO3 Analyzes human movement based on kinesiological and biomechanical principles and distinguishes between normal and pathological gait characteristics.
LO4 Analyzes the normal mechanical characteristics and pathomechanical alterations of the spine, pelvis, and upper and lower extremity joints.
LO5 Evaluates normal and pathological conditions of the musculoskeletal and neural systems from a biomechanical perspective and applies fundamental kinesiological and pathomechanical knowledge to the interpretation of clinical problems.

Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence

Violation of academic integrity includes, but is not limited to, cheating or attempting to cheat, plagiarism, presenting false information or citations, facilitating dishonest actions carried out by others, obtaining examinations without authorization, using previously completed work without informing the instructor, and altering another student’s academic work. Any form of violation of academic integrity constitutes a serious academic offense and will result in consequences under the university’s disciplinary regulations.
