Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to provide civil engineering students with fundamental knowledge about the Earth’s evolutionary processes and the potential impacts these processes may have on civil engineering structures. The course aims to examine fundamental scientific concepts, natural laws, and principles related to our planet and evaluate them from an engineering perspective.

Course Content

The course covers the origin of the Earth, as well as the formation, distribution, and properties of minerals and rocks. It also introduces geological phenomena related to processes such as weathering, sedimentation, and metamorphism. The use of geological maps, principles of engineering geology, the theory of plate tectonics, and earthquakes constitute the core topics of the course.
