Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide students with the tools necessary to sharpen their ability for original research in psychology. These include the skills to design and conduct research studies, collect and analyze data, draw appropriate conclusions based on statistical results, and write scientific reports. Another goal is to develop your capacity to critically evaluate "scientific evidence" as it is presented in academic journals, the popular press, and other media, such as reports from government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and corporations.

Course Content

This course is design for the scientific approach and the development of knowledge in psychology. This course’s topics include theories and hypotheses, correlational and experimental research, ethics and APA style references, as well as reliability and validity, confounding variables, descriptive statistics, sampling and factorial design.
