Course Objectives

The course aims to foster abstract and three-dimensional thinking, encouraging students to develop personal insights grounded in the principles of creating space and urban environments. By focusing on key concepts such as spatial experience, context, function, user, scale, and formal composition at the urban scale, students will learn to view the design process as a research-driven endeavour. The course emphasizes the creative use of personalized data gathered during this process and promotes a design approach enriched by diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary knowledge. Additionally, students will be equipped to develop sustainable solutions for urban scale design challenges.

Course Content

This semester, it is expected from the students to design a Senior Living Campus in Döşemealtı. Students’ task is to design a vibrant and active senior living community in Döşemealtı, Antalya, moving away from institutionalization toward an environment that supports independence, dignity, choice, physical activity, social participation, and intergenerational interaction. Rather than approaching ageing primarily through the lens of care and dependency, the project will explore how architecture can enable older adults to maintain meaningful, active, and socially connected lives. The studio encourages students to explore a shift from conventional institutional models of elderly care toward more residential, community-oriented approaches to senior living. This distinction can provide a conceptual framework for master planning and architectural design, while allowing different interpretations and design responses.
