Course Objectives

It is aimed to recognize the general characteristics of microorganisms that cause disease in humans, to have information about the ways of transmission and protection, and to evaluate the diseases they cause.

Introduction to medical microbiology, Definition, history and importance of microbiology; Types of microorganisms; Commensal and pathogenic microbial flora in humans. Bacterial genetics; Introduction to bacteriology. Staphylococci and associated gram-positive cocci. Streptococci. Gram-negative cocci. Enteric gramnegative rods and other gram-positive rods. Other gram-negative rods. Anaerobic gram-negative bacteria. Anaerobic, non-spore, gram-positive bacteria. Mycobacterium, Clostridium, Bacillus, Legionella.
