Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide nursing students with basic knowledge about infectious microorganisms and the diseases caused by them, which will help them to perform their profession.

Course Content

The course covers fundamental topics such as an introduction to microbiology and brief history, classification of microorganisms, cell structure, metabolism and genetics of bacteria, reproduction of bacteria, structural features of viruses, pathogenic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmas, mycobacteria, spirochetes, antibacterial agents, medical mycology, medical parasitology, microbiological sampling, disinfection, sterilization, immunology, cells and functions of the innate and adaptive immune systems, antigen properties, immunological treatment and vaccination.
