Course Objectives

The goal of this first-year design studio course is to teach students how to start, develop, and practice a design process that results in the creation and thoughtful expression of a design proposal.

Course Content

The first-year design studio is built on understanding design-thinking and design-expressing methods by observing, exploring, and practicing. Design focuses on understanding and creating relationships among living beings, artifacts, spaces, and their extended environments through a variety of form & space composition exercises. Understanding the usage of the basic design principles in a project with an exploratory, creative, process-oriented approach is at the center of in-studio practices, assignments, and critiques of this course.
