About the Program
Established in 2011, the Department of Political Science and International Relations holds the distinction of being one of only two departments in the Mediterranean region offering 100% English-language education in this field. With its distinguished academic staff, experts in their fields with national and international experience, it provides students with a universal educational environment tailored to the needs of the modern age. Our department has an educational approach that brings together different disciplines, aiming to analyze changing global dynamics and complex political systems from a multi-dimensional perspective, and offers a rich curriculum covering a wide range of subjects. The department's primary goal is to cultivate well-equipped future leaders, diplomats, and decision-makers who can think analytically and critically, making a difference both nationally and internationally, through the high-quality education it provides.
Admission and Registration Requirements
The Department of Political Science and International Relations admits students based on the EA score, according to the score tables resulting from the university entrance exams organized by ÖSYM. In accordance with Article 5 of our University's Regulations on Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training, in order to finalize enrollment at the university, it is required to have been placed in a diploma program through the central placement exams conducted by ÖSYM, to have succeeded in the special talent exam, or to have had a lateral transfer application accepted.The principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Senate within the framework of relevant legislative provisions are applied for the admission and registration of international students. Conditions for student admission via lateral transfer, vertical transfer, and other principles are announced on the department's website.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Students are admitted to our department through the central placement conducted by ÖSYM, the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), inter-institutional lateral transfer (domestic and international) based on merit, intra-institutional lateral transfer based on merit, and both inter-institutional and intra-institutional lateral transfer based on central placement scores.Admitted students may request that the courses they successfully completed in their previous undergraduate or associate degree programs be adjusted (credited) toward the department’s curriculum before finalizing their registration. This request must be submitted via a petition to the Office of the Dean at the beginning of the academic year in which the student will commence their studies at the Faculty—after completing the English Preparatory School, if required. Students making such a request must attach the original copy of a certified transcript to their petition.The adjustment process is carried out within the framework of the principles determined by our department commission. During these procedures, course content and ECTS workload are taken into consideration. Regarding the evaluation of adjustment requests from students enrolled through international inter-institutional lateral transfer, the primary principle is the compatibility of courses taken domestically and/or abroad with the program competencies established in accordance with national qualifications in the relevant field.
Program Educational Objectives
The Educational Objectives of the Political Science and International Relations Program were developed with the participation of our internal stakeholders and subsequently presented to our external stakeholders—including representatives from public institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector—for their feedback, ensuring a participatory approach. In this way, our program has been designed to strike a balance between the dynamics of global politics and today’s professional environment and the expectations of academia.The Program Educational Objectives (PEAs) are defined as follows:
PEA1: To educate graduates who are preferred candidates for careers in diplomacy and public administration, including positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for European Union Affairs, Ministry of Interior, and other public institutions;
PEA2: To educate graduates who assume roles in international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), NATO, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the European Union (EU), or in civil society organizations operating at the national and international levels, such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International;
PEA3: To educate graduates who work in positions such as strategists, consultants, and analysts in think tanks, media organizations, or political consultancy centers, where they assess current political and social developments from an analytical perspective;
PEA4: To educate graduates who assume responsibilities in various positions within departments such as corporate communications, human resources, risk analysis, and strategic planning in private-sector companies;
PEA5: To educate political scientists and international relations specialists who pursue academic careers at reputable universities in Türkiye or abroad.
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation
At our University, examinations consist of midterm exams, final exams, make-up exams, exemption exams, additional exams, and single-course exams. Examinations are conducted according to the schedule prepared and announced by our faculty. The presentation of student identification cards is mandatory to enter the exams. Our university does not implement resit (makeup) exams; however, a summer school program is available.A midterm exam is an assessment conducted during the semester in which a course in our faculty's undergraduate curriculum is offered. At least one midterm exam is held for each course per semester; alternatively, assignments, projects, and similar works performed during the course may be used in place of a midterm exam at the discretion of the course instructor. The final exam, on the other hand, is the examination conducted within the dates specified in the academic calendar at the end of the semester in which the course is taught. To be eligible to take final exams, a mandatory attendance of 70% must be completed.The academic standing of our students is determined at the end of each semester by calculating their grade point averages. Starting from the end of the second semester, students with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 and above are considered successful, while students with a GPA of 1.99 and below are considered academically insufficient. Students who fail a course included in the program curriculum are required to retake that course in the first semester it is offered. Even if all other graduation requirements are met, a student cannot qualify for graduation until the failed courses are successfully completed.The grade intervals determined for students to be considered successful in a course are as follows:

Graduation Requirements
In accordance with Article 40 of our University's Regulations on Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training, our students shall be entitled to receive a Bachelor's degree upon the successful completion of all courses included in the department curriculum, provided they maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and achieve a total of 240 ECTS credits.
Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Our graduates may apply for master's programs, doctoral (PhD) programs, or proficiency in arts programs within their respective fields of interest.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The Department of Political Science and International Relations prepares its students for employment in various sectors. Our graduates are equipped with a strong foundation that enables them to prepare for national examinations of public institutions, primarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our English-language program equips our students with the analytical and critical thinking skills, the ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions, data analysis and interpretation, and effective written and oral communication skills needed by a wide range of institutions and organizations, from banks, foreign trade companies, and media organizations to international companies, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
