Economics

Economics is a comprehensive social science that examines the production, distribution, and consumption processes of goods and services in a world characterized by limited resources and unlimited human wants. The science of economics assists individuals and institutions in effectively guiding decision-making processes to achieve maximum utility with scarce resources.
Our department offers a 4-year (8-semester) undergraduate program with 100% English medium of instruction. In addition to the national Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), students are admitted through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), lateral transfers, and diploma equivalence procedures.
Through the Erasmus+ Exchange Programs, our students have the opportunity to study at partner universities abroad. Similarly, international exchange students from foreign higher education institutions are welcomed in our department.
Operating under the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, our department offers core mandatory courses covering fundamental economic disciplines, alongside a rich pool of elective courses enabling students to specialize according to their academic and professional interests.
The academic staff comprises a total of 7 members, including 6 faculty members and 1 research assistants.

Students are admitted to the program via the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted annually by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Admission to the Department of Economics is based on the Equal Weight (EA) score category.
Central placement procedures are carried out by ÖSYM in accordance with candidates' preferences and success rankings.

Students may apply for the transfer of courses they have previously taken and successfully completed at higher education institutions where they were previously enrolled, or at an institution whose equivalency is recognized, within the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Course transfer procedures are evaluated based on the current course content and are preferably finalized by the course add–drop deadline specified in the academic calendar.
Course transfer applications are evaluated by the relevant program/department/department chair, and the final decision is made by the administrative board of the relevant academic unit.

1. Graduates contribute to solving economic problems in the public sector, private sector, finance, research, and consultancy by evaluating economic theory and its applications from analytical and critical perspectives.
2. Graduates analyze economic data using mathematical, statistical, and econometric methods and take part in data-driven decision-making, reporting, and policy evaluation processes.
3. Graduates participate in professional life as individuals who are capable of effective teamwork, assume responsibility, communicate effectively, and adapt to diverse organizational environments.
4. Graduates apply research methods to collect, analyze, and interpret data and to produce scientific and professional reports for academic, institutional, or policy-oriented studies.
5. Graduates evaluate the social, environmental, and institutional impacts of economic decisions while adhering to the principles of professional ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability.
6. Graduates monitor national and global economic developments and analyze them in the context of economic growth, development, financial markets, international trade, employment, and public policy.

Academic performance evaluation in our department is conducted through midterm examinations, end-of-semester (final) examinations, resit (makeup) examinations, excuse examinations, exemption examinations, additional examinations, and single-course examinations. All examinations are administered in accordance with the official examination schedule prepared and announced by the Dean's Office. Students are required to present a valid student identification card to participate in examinations.

Midterm Examination: Evaluations conducted during the semester. At least one midterm exam is administered per course per semester. At the discretion of the course instructor, semester assignments, projects, presentations, and similar coursework may serve as a midterm exam or contribute to the overall midterm assessment grade.

Final Examination: Examinations conducted at the end of the semester within the dates specified in the academic calendar. To qualify for the final examination, students must satisfy the minimum requirement of 70% class attendance.

Resit (Bütünleme) Examination: An examination offered to students who fail the final examination (receiving letter grades such as FF or FD) or who were eligible but unable to attend the final examination. Students wishing to improve their course letter grades may also take the resit examination within the scope of relevant academic regulations. The grade earned in the resit examination replaces the final examination grade for that course.

Student academic achievement and course performance are determined based on letter grades and quality point coefficients in accordance with the Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations of Antalya Bilim University.

Students must successfully complete all courses in the program, which requires receiving a letter grade of at least D or higher in each course.In addition, students are required to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits in the program and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00 in order to graduate.

Graduates of the Bachelor’s Program in Economics are qualified to apply for postgraduate (Master's and Ph.D.) studies. Admission of candidates to postgraduate programs is contingent upon fulfilling the admission criteria established by the respective graduate institutes, which include the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), ALES (or equivalent international standard exams like GRE/GMAT), foreign language proficiency test scores, and performance in oral/written entrance evaluations.
Our graduates can pursue postgraduate education both at national universities and at international higher education institutions abroad upon satisfying the required admission criteria.

Public Sector: Graduates can work in major public institutions such as the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), the Strategy and Budget Directorate of the Presidency, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Additionally, they may serve as specialists, analysts, or auditors in regulatory and supervisory authorities (such as the Capital Markets Board [SPK] and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency [BDDK]), local governments, and regional development agencies.

International Organizations: Graduates have opportunities to work in global institutions such as the United Nations (UN), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the European Union (EU), taking on critical roles in economic analysis, sustainability policy formulation, and international project management.

Research Centers and Think Tanks: They can serve as researchers, economists, or policy analysts in national and international think tanks and research centers focused on economics, development, and public policy.

Academic Career: Graduates pursuing postgraduate studies (Master's and Ph.D.) can join academic faculties at universities in Türkiye or abroad, and contribute to national and international research projects.

Consulting and Advisory Services: Specializing in economics and finance, graduates can work for global and local consulting firms offering management consultancy, investment advisory, economic modeling, risk analysis, and market research services.

Entrepreneurship: Harnessing financial literacy, market analysis, and resource management skills gained during their studies, graduates have strong opportunities to establish their own business ventures or develop innovative business models.
