Economics

Economics is a broad social science that examines the production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services. Considering that we live in a world where resources are limited while human needs are continuous and expanding, economics plays a crucial role in helping individuals and societies make effective decisions about how to allocate these scarce resources in order to satisfy their needs.The undergraduate program in our department lasts four years (eight semesters), and the language of instruction is 100% English. Students are admitted not only through the national university entrance system but also through Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS), equivalency procedures, and horizontal transfer opportunities.Our faculty also actively participates in international and national exchange programs. Through the Erasmus exchange program, students have the opportunity to study abroad, while the Farabi and Mevlana exchange programs allow for academic mobility within Türkiye and with partner universities. In addition, our faculty welcomes students from both national and international institutions through these exchange programs.Within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Department of Economics offers courses covering the core fields of economics along with a wide range of elective courses that allow students to specialize according to their interests.Currently, our department has 8 academic staff members, including 6 faculty members and 2 research assistants, who contribute to teaching, research, and the academic development of our students.

Students are admitted to the program through the national university entrance examination system organized annually by ÖSYM. Admission to the Department of Economics is based on the Equal Weight (EA) score type, and candidates are placed according to their preferences and the previous year’s base scores for the program.

Students may apply for the transfer of courses they have previously taken and successfully completed at higher education institutions where they were previously enrolled, or at an institution whose equivalency is recognized, within the dates specified in the academic calendar.Course transfer procedures are evaluated based on the current course content and are preferably finalized by the course add–drop deadline specified in the academic calendar.Course transfer applications are evaluated by the relevant program/department/department chair, and the final decision is made by the administrative board of the relevant academic unit.

Examinations at our university consist of midterm examinations, final examinations, make-up examinations, exemption examinations, additional examinations, and single-course examinations. All examinations are conducted according to the schedule prepared and announced by the faculty. Students are required to present their student identification cards in order to take the examinations. Our university does not implement a resit (make-up) exam system after finals, but a summer school program is available.The midterm examination is conducted during the semester in which the course is offered within the undergraduate curriculum of our faculty. Each course has at least one midterm examination per semester. Alternatively, assignments, projects, or similar coursework carried out during the semester may be evaluated by the course instructor and counted as a midterm assessment.The final examination is held at the end of the semester in which the course is taught, within the dates specified in the academic calendar. In order to take the final examination, students must meet the minimum attendance requirement of 70%.The grade ranges required for students to be considered successful in a course are as follows:

Students must successfully complete all courses in the program, which requires receiving a letter grade of at least D or higher in each course.In addition, students are required to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits in the program and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00 in order to graduate.

Graduates of the Department of Economics may pursue graduate studies after obtaining their bachelor's degree. In order to enroll in graduate programs, candidates must meet the admission requirements set by the relevant institutes, including the required grade point average (GPA), foreign language proficiency, ALES score, and other examination requirements. Once these criteria are fulfilled, graduates may continue their education at the master’s and doctoral levels.

Private Sector:In the private sector, graduates can work in companies operating in fields such as finance, banking, insurance, logistics, and international trade, particularly in units responsible for economic analysis, planning, and strategy development. International Organizations:Our graduates may find employment opportunities in international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the OECD, and the European Union. In these institutions, they may take on important roles in economic analysis, policy development, and project management.4. Research Centers and Think Tanks:Graduates may work as analysts or researchers in academic and applied research centers focusing on economics. They can also play active roles in think tanks that evaluate the impacts of economic policies and provide strategic solutions.5. Academic Career:Graduates who pursue master’s and doctoral degrees may build academic careers at universities. They can also participate in national and international research projects.6. Consulting and Management Services:Graduates specializing in economics and finance may work in consulting firms, contributing to areas such as strategy development, economic modeling, and market analysis. They also have strong career prospects in management consulting and investment analysis.7.
