Industrial Engineering

The Department of Industrial Engineering was established in 2011 within the Faculty of Engineering at ABU by the decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Following its establishment, efforts were initiated to develop the department’s physical infrastructure and academic staff. After the required facilities and personnel needs were met, the department began its educational activities in the 2012–2013 academic year with an initial intake of 26 students. As of 2024, the number of students enrolled in the department has reached 250.

Students are admitted to our department through central placement conducted by ÖSYM, the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS), inter-institutional horizontal transfers from domestic and international institutions based on academic achievement, intra-institutional horizontal transfers based on academic achievement, and inter- and intra-institutional transfers based on central placement scores. In order to complete final registration at the University, candidates must have been placed in one of the University’s diploma programs through the central placement examinations conducted by ÖSYM, have successfully passed a special talent examination if applicable, or have had their horizontal transfer application accepted. For the admission and registration of international students, the principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the University Senate within the framework of the relevant regulations are applied. Students who are entitled to enroll at the University must complete their final registration in person within the dates specified in the academic calendar by applying to the registration offices with the original diploma obtained from the secondary education institution they graduated from or a recently issued graduation certificate, together with the original copies or university-approved copies of other documents required by the University. The student’s declaration regarding military service status and criminal record is taken as the basis. However, applicants who have a valid excuse may complete their registration through their legal representative or through a proxy authorized by a notary. Candidates who fail to complete their final registration within the specified dates cannot claim any rights and registration by mail is not accepted. Students who do not pay the tuition fee within the period determined by the Rectorate cannot complete their final registration. Individuals who have missing, falsified, or altered registration documents, those who are found to have committed fraud in the university entrance examination, those who are registered in another higher education institution’s diploma program except those permitted by YÖK, and those who have been expelled from a higher education institution due to disciplinary action cannot register at the University. Even if their registration has been completed, it will be cancelled. All documents issued by the University to such individuals, including diplomas, will be invalidated even if they have already left the University, and any tuition fees they have paid will not be refunded.

Students admitted to our department may request the recognition and adaptation of the courses they successfully completed in the undergraduate or associate degree programs in which they were previously enrolled before registering in our department. This request must be submitted at the beginning of the academic year in which the student will start studying in the department, after completing the English preparatory program if required, through a petition addressed to the Faculty Dean’s Office. The student must attach the original approved transcript document to the petition. The adaptation process is carried out in accordance with the principles determined by the Faculty Administrative Board and the commissions assigned by the board. During the adaptation process, course contents and ECTS workload are taken into consideration. In addition, particularly for courses taken from departments of faculties outside the Faculty of Engineering or from vocational schools, a decision is made by also evaluating the knowledge related to Industrial Engineering that the student could have acquired in the previously enrolled program. For students who enroll in our department through international inter-institutional transfer from abroad, the evaluation of adaptation requests is based on the principle that the courses taken abroad must comply with the program outcomes determined in accordance with national qualifications related to the field of Industrial Engineering.

The objective of the Industrial Engineering Program at Antalya Bilim University is to educate graduates who can demonstrate leadership in production and service systems and take active roles in engineering, operations, and management positions in both national and international organizations. The program also aims to support graduates in pursuing graduate and doctoral studies at reputable universities, contributing original work in academic and research institutions, and developing entrepreneurial skills to establish, grow, and manage technology-driven companies.

At our University, examinations consist of midterm exams, final exams, make-up exams, exemption exams, additional exams, and single-course exams. Examinations are conducted according to the schedule prepared and announced by the Faculty of Engineering. Students are required to present their student identification cards in order to take the exams. The University does not apply a resit examination system; instead, a summer school program is available. The midterm exam is conducted during the semester in which the course is offered in the undergraduate curriculum of our department. Each course includes at least one midterm exam per semester, or assignments, projects, or similar coursework carried out during the semester may be used as a substitute for the midterm exam at the discretion of the course instructor. The final exam is conducted at the end of the semester in which the course is taught, on the dates specified in the academic calendar. In order to be eligible to take the final exam, students must fulfill the minimum attendance requirement of 70% for the course. The academic standing of our students is determined at the end of each semester by calculating their grade point averages. Starting from the end of the second semester, students with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or above are considered academically successful, while students with a cumulative grade point average of 1.99 or below are considered academically insufficient. Students who fail a course in the program curriculum are required to retake the course in the first semester in which it is offered again. Even if all other graduation requirements are fulfilled, students cannot graduate until all failed courses have been successfully completed.

In accordance with Article 40 of the University’s Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations, students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum of our department, whose cumulative grade point average is at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and whose total completed credits are at least 240 ECTS credits are entitled to receive a bachelor’s degree from our department. Students must have successfully completed all courses in the program and must not have grades of F, FX, U, I, or W. In this program, students are required to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits and achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Graduates of the Industrial Engineering Department who are entitled to receive a bachelor’s degree may continue their graduate studies if they wish to pursue postgraduate education, provided that they meet the requirements determined by each institute, including the required cumulative grade point average, foreign language proficiency, ALES score, and other examination criteria necessary for admission to graduate programs.

Industrial engineers have a wide range of employment opportunities in both the private sector and public institutions. In particular, production-oriented industrial organizations and sectors such as automotive, home appliances, textiles, defense industry, and energy are among the areas where this profession is highly represented. In addition, industrial engineers can work in service sectors such as banking, insurance, logistics, transportation, healthcare, software, retail, and e-commerce, taking roles in areas such as process management, efficiency analysis, and operational planning. In the public sector, they may also be employed in engineering positions in various ministries and municipalities as well as in institutions such as TÜBİTAK, TCDD, BOTAŞ, and TEİAŞ. Thanks to their analytical thinking and systems approach, industrial engineers can take active roles in different areas such as project management, quality management systems, human resources, and business development. Moreover, due to the strong mathematical and analytical background they gain during their education, they also have opportunities to work in the finance sector.
