About the Program
Antalya Bilim University Faculty of Health Sciences Midwifery Department was established by the decision of the Higher Education Institution published in the official gazette numbered 2547 and dated 14.04.2021 by the Presidency and started undergraduate education with a total of 40 students in the 2021-2022 academic year. We have laboratories required within the scope of the Midwifery National Core Education Program and are equipped with all kinds of technological and physical facilities.
Admission and Registration Requirements
Admission to the program is based on the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) score (SAY) obtained annually by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Students to be admitted to the department must comply with Article 38 of the higher education program's conditions and explanations guide. This article is as follows:1. Students enrolling in this program are required to wear the uniform determined by the department administration during hospital/field and school laboratory applications (Article 38).
Recognition of Prior Learning
To be able to enroll in the university, it is necessary to have obtained the required grade for the department as a result of the central placement exams organized by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center) or to have had a transfer application accepted. For the admission and registration of international students, the principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Senate within the framework of the relevant legislation are applied.Transfer procedures between equivalent diploma programs at the same level within the university from domestic and foreign higher education institutions, and matters related to double major and minor programs, are carried out according to the provisions of the Regulation on Transfers Between Associate and Bachelor's Degree Programs, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions, published in the Official Gazette dated 24/04/2010 and numbered 27561, and the procedures and principles determined by the Senate.The procedures for transferring graduates of vocational colleges to undergraduate programs are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education for Graduates of Vocational Colleges and Open Education Associate Degree Programs, published in the Official Gazette dated 19/2/2002 and numbered 24676, and the principles determined by the Senate.
Program Educational Objectives
Our aim is to train professional midwives who, in line with contemporary approaches, possess international-level knowledge and research skills, understand their community and health issues, utilize critical thinking processes, respect human rights and values, fulfill their roles and functions as effective members of the healthcare team, consider professional ethical principles, and lead the community. In line with these values, our midwifery graduates will gain the ability to conduct education, counseling, and care services for individuals/women/pregnant women/families and the community with a holistic approach and a sense of professional and ethical responsibility, and to carry out their professional practice in accordance with professional midwifery values and ethical principles.
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation
Exams at our university consist of midterm exams, final exams, make-up exams, exemption exams, supplementary exams, and single-course exams. Exams are conducted according to the schedule prepared and announced by our faculty. Presenting student ID cards is mandatory to enter exams. Our university does not have a make-up exam system; however, a summer school program is available.A midterm exam is an exam given during the semester in which a course is taught within the curriculum of our faculty's undergraduate program. Each course has at least one midterm exam per semester, or assignments, projects, and similar work done during the course may be used in place of a midterm exam at the discretion of the course instructor. A final exam is an exam held at the end of the semester in which the course is taught, within the dates specified in the academic calendar. To be eligible to take final exams, students must have completed 70% of the courses. The passing grade ranges for a course are as follows:Our students' academic proficiency is determined by their grade point averages at the end of each semester. From the end of the second semester onwards, students with a GPA of 2.00 or higher are considered successful, while those with a GPA of 1.99 or below are considered academically insufficient. Students who fail a course in the program curriculum must retake that course in the first semester it is offered. Even if all other graduation requirements are met, a student cannot graduate unless they have completed the failed course.

Graduation Requirements
(Regulation No. 26775 dated February 2, 2008, on Determining the Minimum Educational Requirements for Medical, Nursing, Midwifery, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy, and Architecture Education Programs) As stated in the regulation, there are mandatory graduation criteria for obtaining a midwifery bachelor's degree in our country (https://www.resmigazete.gov.tr/eskiler/2008/02/20080202-9.htm). Every student must submit documents demonstrating that they have met these criteria before graduation (100 prenatal examinations and follow-ups, 40 normal deliveries, 1-2 breech presentation deliveries, 40 high-risk pregnancy follow-ups, 100 postnatal follow-ups and newborn monitoring, 50 high-risk newborn monitoring). According to Article 40 of our University's Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education and Training Regulations, students who successfully complete all courses in our Faculty's curriculum, have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and complete at least 240 ECTS credits are eligible to graduate from the department.
Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Candidates who successfully complete the undergraduate program can continue their postgraduate education, provided they meet the necessary qualifications, including achieving the required GPA, foreign language proficiency level, ALES exam, and other examination requirements set by each institute.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
In addition to working as managers or clinicians in all units related to the midwifery profession in public and private inpatient treatment institutions, and in institutions where basic health services are provided (family health centers, community health centers, health houses, etc.), they can also work as academics in universities. Furthermore, the Circular on the Opening and Operation of Health Cabins issued by the General Directorate of Basic Health Services of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey grants them the right and authority to practice their profession independently.
