About the Program
At the Higher Education Executive Board Meeting of the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Turkey on April 3, 2019, it was deemed appropriate to establish the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program within the Vocational School, in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880. The Medical Laboratory Techniques Program is an associate degree program aiming to train qualified healthcare technicians capable of performing laboratory analyses used in the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases. The program provides students with theoretical and practical training in biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, and related laboratory fields.
Admission and Registration Requirements
Students are admitted to the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program based on their TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) scores from the university entrance exams administered annually by ÖSYM (Turkish Higher Education Institutions Examination Center), using the previous year's minimum scores as a basis for their preferences.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Students are admitted to our program through central placement by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center), domestic and international inter-institutional transfer based on academic achievement, and inter-institutional and intra-institutional transfer based on central placement scores. Students accepted to the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program may request that courses successfully completed in their previous undergraduate or associate degree programs be adapted to our program's curriculum before enrollment. This request is made by submitting a petition to the Vocational School of Health Services at the beginning of the academic year in which the student will begin their studies. The student making the request must attach an original certified transcript to their petition. The adaptation process is carried out within the framework of the principles determined by the Board of Directors of the Vocational School of Health Services and the committees it appoints. Course content and ECTS credit load are taken into consideration during the adaptation process.
Program Educational Objectives
The aim is to train healthcare personnel equipped to operate equipment used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics, and to perform medical analyses deemed necessary by physicians for the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of diseases. The Medical Laboratory Techniques program aims to graduate its students fully equipped by incorporating the most up-to-date topics in this field. Graduates of this program possess the knowledge and skills to perform biological (biochemical, microbiological, pathological, hematological, etc.) analyses of medical materials using laboratory equipment, machinery, and materials.
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation
Exams at our university consist of midterm exams, final exams, make-up exams, exemption exams, supplementary exams, and single-course exams. Exams are conducted according to the program prepared and announced by the Vocational School of Health Services. Student ID cards must be presented to enter the exams. Our university does not have a make-up exam system; however, a summer school program is available. A midterm exam is an exam given during the semester in which a course is taught within the curriculum of the associate degree program at the Vocational School of Health Services. Each course has at least one midterm exam per semester, or assignments, projects, and similar work done in class may be used in place of a midterm exam at the discretion of the course instructor. A final exam is an exam held at the end of the semester in which the course is taught, within the dates specified in the academic calendar. To be eligible to take final exams, students must complete 70% attendance. The grade ranges for passing a course are as follows:

Graduation Requirements
According to Article 40 of our University's Undergraduate and Associate Degree Education, Teaching and Examination Regulations, a student is entitled to receive an associate degree from the relevant program if they successfully complete all courses included in the curriculum of the program in which they are enrolled, have a general grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and have completed a total of at least 120 ECTS credits.
Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program have the opportunity to transfer to undergraduate programs announced by ÖSYM (Turkish Higher Education Institutions Examination Center) through the vertical transfer exam.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Our graduates can find employment as medical laboratory technicians in state and university hospitals, health centers, testing laboratories, as well as in medical laboratories and clinics in the private sector.
